HBG Big News This Week: July 9-13, 2018

Following is a recap of major news at Hachette Book Group for the week of July 9-13, 2018:

NY Times Bestsellers: HBG has the top slots on both the Hardcover Fiction and Nonfiction lists again this week! The President is Missing by Bill Clinton & James Patterson (LB) remains at #1 on the Fiction (as well as the Combined P&E list) and Calypso by David Sedaris (LB) holds onto the #1 position on the Nonfiction list. HBG has 14 titles on the list overall. Our distribution clients have eight titles on the list this week, including one #1 – Last Week Tonight with John Oliver Presents A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo by Marlon Bundo with Jill Twiss (Chronicle), #1 on the Picture Books list.

Rowling/Galbraith is back!: Mulholland Books announced the publication of the next Robert Galbraith book, Lethal White. The news was picked up by USA Today, Entertainment WeeklyBustleNewsweek, and others.

PEN Ackerley Prize: Richard Beard has won the PEN Ackerley Prize 2018 for his memoir The Day That Went Missing (LB), the

UK’s only literary prize dedicated to memoir and autobiography. The judges praised the memoir as “compulsively readable, fearless, and in places surprisingly funny…the book is an extraordinary act of reclamation and reconciliation.”

Endeavor Award: Louisa Morgan’s A Secret History of Witches (Redhook) is a finalist for the Endeavor Award, given to a distinguished science fiction or fantasy book written by a Pacific Northwest author. Previous honorees include Dreadnought by Cherie Priest, Forest Mage by Robin Hobb, and The Child Goddess by Louise Marley (a.k.a. Louisa Morgan). Winners will be announced on November 9. Big cover reveal: the cover for Pete Souza’s upcoming SHADE: A Tale of Two Presidents (LB, 10/16 OSD) made a huge splash this week. Pete’s Instagram post with the cover image has over 167,000 likes and 5,700 comments. Outlets that picked up news of the reveal include PeopleHuffPost, The HillMashableBustle, and BookRiot. Pete will have a major media tour this Fall, including two Good Morning America segments, an appearance on The View, NPR’s Here and Now, a Facebook Live interview, radio and TV satellite tours and much more.
